Cheti Chand and Gudi Padwa Celebrations

This week we celebrated 2 festivals- Gudi Padwa and Cheti Chand. Children learned the significance of these festivals through various activities. Many of them even shared their own experiences about their celebrations at home, during circle time.

In Maharashtra, Gudi Padwa, also known as ‘Samvatsara Padvo’ is the first day of the New Year. The festival also marks the beginning of the harvest season. This is celebrated with great enthusiasm and excitement in Maharashtra. Gudis are hoisted outside homes to bring good luck. A gudi usually consists of a bright silk scarf tied to the top of a bamboo stick. Boughs of neem, considered to be of divine origin, are also tied to the top along with flowers. The arrangement is capped with an upturned copper or steel pot.

Chetri Chandra is a festival that marks the beginning of the Lunar Hindu New Year for Sindhi Hindus. The date of the festival is based on the lunar cycle of the lunisolar Hindu calendar, falling on the first day of the year, in the Sindhi month of Chet.

In addition to discussions, stories and videos, students of Toddler and Nursery, did an art activity painting moons. Students of Junior KG drew and coloured Gudis. Marigold flower garlands and rangolis were also drawn and coloured by the students. Senior KG students worked in groups and created their very own class Gudi which was hoisted in their class area.

Gudi Padwa and Cheti Chand Greetings to All!!!
